Because this is probably the only time you’ll see me posting about politics, albeit loosely. And if fish start falling from the sky then I won’t have to buy groceries next week.

I didn’t vote for Obama. No, not because of his race or a staunch belief in a particular party. I have my reasons, though some are silly and some are not. Had I been 10-15 years younger I might have voted for him. I was a lot more optimistic back then about people and the world. (Yes, I’m looking forward to being 70, sitting on my front porch, and complaining about those pesky kids with their crazy clothes and loud music.) I was more likely to believe in the ability of one man with such high hopes to change a nation. Of course, when I was even younger I was sure I could build a submarine if I just had enough wood and pitch.

But I find myself encouraged by the amount of support behind this man. I find myself encouraged that so many others are more optimistic than myself. Maybe he can make a big difference, and hopefully the way in which he goes about it is the right way. Sure, I think a lot of people are caught up in his charisma, his message of hope, and his catchy poster graphics. But hey, it got people’s attention.

There are still plenty of people still hating on Bush; that seems to be a popular hobby. And there are plenty of people on the other side, hating on Obama (give it time, it’ll catch on as it always does). Well, here we are and the votes are in. You might as well be complaining about that pop quiz you failed in fourth grade.

I honestly hope our country can evolve, improve, and grow in character. I hope Obama is the man to do it or there will be a lot of disappointed people and I’ll be that much closer to calling the cops on those pesky kids.
